Sorry for the delay.  I accidentally fried the laptop charger yesterday and we didn’t know if we would be able to get another one.  Our guide is the best! She called this afternoon to tell us that she was able to get one for us. Yeah!

So here we go! (I will post some pictures once we have the laptop charged a bit more)

Tuesday, we had an appointment to complete some more paperwork for the adoption back at the Civil Affairs Office.  We needed to be in the lobby for 8:30am to ensure we would arrive on time.  Have I mentioned the traffic here in China?  It’s insane – streetlights and lane dividers are just a suggestion.  Pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way.  And don’t even get me started on the roundabouts!  Anyway, we got up and dressed ourselves and Molly and headed to breakfast.  It was going great. No tears so far.  She had a good breakfast and even let me feed her.  We went back to the room to get our stuff to go and head down to the lobby and just our luck – she pooped!  We changed her and got to the lobby only a few minutes late.

We arrived at the Civil Affairs Office with 10 minutes to spare.  We signed off on all the adoption papers and paid the money – now we are broke but for the best reason in the world.  We also had to fingerprint all our signatures in red ink.  Molly had to footprint the copies.  Molly was not a happy camper and started to wail again.  We think she remembered her ordeal from Monday.  We went to a store near the office to get her passport photo done.  She would not stop crying long enough to take the photo.  We had to try a couple times before she would sit still long enough to take it.  Christina advised us that she will pick up the photos and the originals of our paperwork on Friday.

After that, we went to the Bank of China to exchange some more traveler’s cheques.  Banking in China is very different.  They have “greeters” to welcome you at reception.  Once they know what banking you need to do, they hand you a number – like at the hospital for blood work.  You are then invited to take a seat and wait.  (Some locals were actually taking a nap right there in the bank.) We waited an hour in Beijing to exchange our money and about 25 minutes in Wuhan.  Apparently it was a bigger bank so the process was a bit smoother.  I don’t think this would fly in Canada!

After the bank ordeal, we got Molly settled and went for lunch.  It took a lot longer than we expected to get to the restaurant and we let her get overtired.  She also has a bit of a cough - I tried to give her some cough syrup but she just spit it out.  Scott was successful at getting her to take some.

Molly is definitely attaching to Scott much faster than me.  She won't leave his side for a minute.  Apparently the "grandfather" had a beard and she was really attached to him.  He has been the primary caregiver so far.  She threw a fit when he had to hand her over to me at the bank so he could finish signing the traveler's cheques.  Scott is really having a hard time with her being so sad.  He is a great ba-ba! 

We are starting to decipher what she is saying at times.  She mostly calls out for the foster parents.  It's so sad but at the same time a bit funny.  She has the cutest little pout.  She is also starting to show a bit of her personality.  She was playing with the stacking cups and would get a bit frustrated when she couldn't get them to fit.

Tomorrow we will be doing some sightseeing.  Hopefully things will go better.
